Support Bible Sunday and Send God’s Word to the World

Your support of the American Bible Society helps assure that those most in need of God’s love will be able receive it in a language they can understand and a form that they will embrace.

Five special projects around the globe will be supported by your donations and prayers during this year’s Bible Sunday.

Ministering to the Hearts and Minds of Urban Youth

Connecting at-risk youth with the gospel through contemporary art forms

Today urban youth culture is the dominating force in the lives of young people. Elementz of Life™ provides evangelistic resources with contemporary appeal to introduce urban youth to the Bible. As the truth and love of Jesus Christ are presented, youth can learn the Bible's message of hope, and where to seek help in a crisis. Ministry leaders and directors of programs for at-risk youth are making effective use of these Scripture tools.

Boat Program Reaches Amazon Residents

Isolated riverside villages receive God’s Word, medicine and dental care

BRAZILIANS LIVING ALONG THE AMAZON RIVER face physical and spiritual poverty due to their economy and remote location. The inability to reach larger settlements keeps people from accessing public health services and biblical materials. Light in the Amazon III, a specially designed boat program run by SBB, offers people hope through the Word of God and medical, dental and social assistance.

Bibles for Orphans and the Elderly

Clergy will distribute illustrated Bibles and large-print Bibles to both groups

Forty years of Communism has left its impact on Christianity in Romania. Although religious freedom exists, the effects of those constraints are still present. The Interconfessional Bible Society of Romania provides Scripture to orphans, who lack family and resources, as well as elderly Romanians, who require large-print Bibles. Through this program both the elderly and orphans are able to receive comfort from the Word of God.

Bible Translation in Thailand

One translation updated for younger generation, while work on a second translation continues

THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH IN THAILAND IS GROWING. After decades of Christian missionary outreach, more than 94 percent of Thai people are members of the Theravada Buddhist sect. The Muslim population makes up about 4 percent; Christians less than 1 percent. Hindering growth is the absence of a modern Thai translation of Scripture. The 1971 standard version of the Thai Bible is being updated by the Thailand Bible Society (TBS).The New Testament was completed in 2002 and the Pentateuch in 2007. This year, the book of Psalms will be published and ongoing translation work on two historical books will be stepped up. TBS will also continue working on the translation of the Bible in the Pwo Karen language to reach the fast-growing Christian population among members of Thailand’s largest tribal group.

HIV Prevention in Southern Africa

Young people learn the Biblical approach to avoiding AIDS; refugees learn English

HIV/AIDS HAS DEVASTATED Swaziland, leaving a country where almost half of the population is younger than 15. Complicating this, Swaziland continues to open its arms to refugees from other troubled Southern African countries, which further challenges the country’s resources to care for its people. Through a multifaceted project, Bible Society Swaziland (BSS) will meet spiritual and social needs of children and youth by providing HIV prevention education and Scripture. The needs of French-speaking refugees will also be met as they are taught English using Scripture-based materials.
